Amy Jump, Wheatley’s wife and collaborator, would also co-write the pic. David Lancaster will produce under his Rumble Films banner while TF1 sells and finances with eOne.
The film will serve as a remake of the 1953 film of the same name, which was an adaptation of Georges Arnaud’s novel. The story follows a group of desperate men who are hired to transport a shipment of highly explosive nitroglycerin across the jungle.
Wheatley’s star-packed Free Fire has put him on the map commercially, exposing the director’s unquestionable talents to mainstream audiences. Free Fire is led by Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Sharlto Copley, and Michael Smiley.
Although Wheatley’s reputation precedes Free Fire, as he’s also known for the thriller Kill List, the fantastic dark comedy Sightseers, and A Field In England. Most recently, he helmed the thriller High Rise, which is led by Tom Hiddleston, Elisabeth Moss, and Luke Evans.
