Rob Riggle Gets Serious In “Midnight Sun”

is stepping away from his comedic roots as he joins YA film  based on the 2006 Japanese film of the same name. He will star opposite Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

The film follows a girl (Thorne) with a deadly allergy to sunlight. She meets a boy (Schwarzenegger) during a nighttime excursion and the two embark on a summer romance.

Boies/Schiller Group, who are also handling McG’s The Babysitter, will finance and Rickard Pictures is producing. 

burst on the scene in 2006 as the “military analyst” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Prior to this, Riggle developed a strong following through his comedic partnership with Rob Huebel. Along with Paul Scheer and Aziz Ansari they formed MTV’s Human Giant. Since then he has worked on Saturday Night Live and has performed stand-up all over the country. He has also appeared in 21 and 22 Jump Street, The League, and is currently in theaters in the animated family flick Hotel Transylvania 2. The YA film will be his first serious role.
