Robert De Niro and Reese Witherspoon are in talks to star in THE INTERN. The story follows a 75-year-old retiree who decides to fight his boredom by taking an internship at a fashion website run by a dynamic female entrepreneur. Should a deal be reached they’ll play the respective leads. I’m also guessing someone will want to change that title at some point, least people confuse it with the similar sounding (in name and premise) “The Internship.”
Nancy Meyers (“It’s Complicated”) will direct from her own script. Producing will be Meyers, Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. Project was previously set up at Paramount but is seeking a new home at AFM.
De Niro last appeared in “The Family” and “Last Vegas.” He’ll show up next in “American Hustle” and two boxing movies “Grudge Match” and “Hands of Stone.” Witherspoon was last seen in “Mud” and she’ll next appear in PT Anderson’s “Inherent Vice”, “The Good Lie” and “Wild” which is currently filming.
De Niro and Witherspoon are repped by CAA.
