Robert De Niro has confirmed his role in David O. Russell’s JOY. The drama, based on the true story of Joy Mangano, centers on a struggling Long Island single mom of three who invented the Miracle Mop and became one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs. De Niro will join Jennifer Lawrence as Mangano. He has been cast as Mangano’s father. Russell has announced that he has also created a role in the film for Bradley Cooper.
De Niro and Russell have worked together before on Silver Linings Playbook, which also starred Lawrence. Most recently, De Niro has starred in Jon Turteltaub’s comedy Last Vegas, Peter Segal’s sports comedy Grudge Match, and crime/thriller The Bag Man. His upcoming projects include starring roles in the biopic Hands of Stone, Nancy Meyers’s comedy The Intern, and thriller Bus 657.
De Niro is repped by CAA.
