Warner Bros. is in talks with Rooney Mara for the role of Tiger Lily in the upcoming Peter Pan film, PAN. Tiger Lily has traditionally been portrayed as the princess of a tribe of Native Americans who live on the island of Neverland but Warner Bros. is imagining a different character than the one we’re all used to.
A reimagining of the classic J.M. Barrie tale, PAN is set during WWII and follows the orphan Peter who is kidnapped and taken to Neverland where he realizes he must defeat the evil Blackbeard.
The reboot is helmed by veteran director Joe Wright, the man behind “Atonement” and “Pride and Prejudice” (two of my personal favorites), with Jason Fuchs writing the screenplay.
If things go well, Mara will join Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund who play Blackbeard and Hook, respectively. No word yet on who would play the young title role.
The film is slated to be released July 17, 2015.
Mara is repped by WME.
