Rooney Mara is replacing Mia Wasikowska in The Weinstein Company’s CAROL. Set in 1950s New York, the story is about a lonely department store employee (Mara) who befriends a housewife (Cate Blanchett) in the middle of a divorce. The two set out across the country while being pursued by a private investigator hired by a jealous ex-husband.
“Far From Heaven” director Todd Haynes will direct the drama that’s based on the novel “The Price of Salt” written by Patricia Highsmith. Phyllis Nagy penned the adaption.
Mara, best known for “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” can currently be seen in the drama “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.”
