Rooney Mara to Play a Pop Star in Music Drama “Vox Lux”

Academy Award-nominated actress has been tapped to star in the upcoming music drama VOX LUX where she will play a pop star. Set to original music from singer-songwriter Sia, the film will be a 15-year odyssey, taking place from 1999 to present day, and will track the rise of singer Celeste to superstardom while looking at the major cultural changes in the 21st century through her eyes.

Brady Corbet is set to direct his own script. The film will also be shot on 65mm large format and will be screened in 70mm. Production on the film is set to begin in February.

Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa of Killer Films will produce alongside Brian Young of Three Six Zero Entertainment. WME Global is repping the worldwide rights to the film.

Mara can be seen next in the drama Lion opposite Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman. She also stars in the drama Una with Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed. Both films premiered screened at the Toronto International Festival.
