The life of activist Donna Hylton is set to make its way to the big screen in A LITTLE PIECE OF LIGHT with set to star.

Based on Hylton’s book by the same name, A Little Piece of Light tells the story of how Jamaican native Hylton was sold to an American couple in New York at 7 years old. She later found out that her adoptive father was a pedophile and she would hide in the closet to get away from him. When she saw “a little piece of light” coming through the room, she knew he was on his way to get her.

Her life was cursed with sexual abuse and at 19 she was arrested as a result of her participation in the kidnapping and murder of a Rikers Island real estate agent. She was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison and was put in solitary confinement. It was in prison where things started to shift for her.

When released from prison in 2012, she began fighting for the rights of women alongside her mother figure and women’s rights activist, Vagina Monologues author Eve Ensler.

Hylton and Dawson are looking for a female writer to adapt the book as well as a female director.

Dawson recently starred in Netflix’s Luke Cage and can be seen in the forthcoming superhero team-up series the Defenders. Her voice can be heard in the upcoming Lego Batman Movie and she stars in William H. Macy’s dramedy Krystal as well as the thriller Unforgettable.
