Revival executive producer Whitney Cummings shared a photo of Galecki’s chair on set, confirming his presence.
The revival is bringing back most of the original cast, including John Goodman, whose character Dan had been revealed to be dead in the original series finale.
“I wouldn’t say it is ignoring the events of the finale but i can confirm that Dan (John Goodman) is still alive,” ABC president Channing Dungey said during her executive panel at the Television Critics’ Association’s summer press tour in August.
Galecki’s David was the main love interest for Sara Gilbert’s character Darlene in the original series, and the revival has already cast the couple’s two children: Ames McNamara as 8-year-old Mark and Emma Kenney as teenaged daughter Harris — who was introduced in the series finale as a baby.
Roseanne Barr, Laurie Metcalf, Goodman, Michael Fishman, and Lecy Goranson are all returning for the revival.
The show aired from 1988 to 1997 and centered around the Conner family, an Illinois working-class family with Barr as the titular matriarch. Back in 2009, Barr gave a detailed account on where each of the main characters would be if the show returned. Roseanne and Jackie are opening the first medical marijuana dispensary in Lanford, while Dan reappears after faking his death.
The reboot will be executive produced by Tom Werner, Barr, and Bruce Helford, who executive produced the original and will be joined by Gilbert. Helford and Cummings are co-running the series.
The revival will air in 2018 with eight episodes.
