Austin & Ally alum Ross Lynch has landed the male lead role in Netflix’s UNT. SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH series. Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka is set to play the titular role in the project from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. TV.
The show is based on the Archie Comics graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and centers on the title character as a dark, coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. It’s described as tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. The series finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature – half-witch and half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.
Lynch’s role of Harvey Kinkle is Sabrina’s boyfriend. Described as the prince charming in the dark fairy tale, Harvey is the son of a coal miner, a dreamboat, and a dreamer, completely unaware of the dark forces conspiring to keep him and Sabrina apart.
The show previously cast Miranda Otto as Aunt Zelda and Lucy Davis as Aunt Hilda.
Lynch is best known for Teen Beach Movie and its sequel, as well as Austin & Ally on the Disney Channel. He can next be seen in Status Update opposite Courtney Eaton and Olivia Holt. He is represented by UTA and Management 360.
