Rowan Atkinson has signed on to play the iconic French detective Jules Maigret in two feature-length dramas for ITV — MAIGRET SETS A TRAP and MAIGRET’S DEAD MAN. The character, created by Georges Simenon and known by his pipe and coat, first appeared in print in 1931 and would eventually inspire over 75 novels.
Atkinson, well-known as Mr. Bean, stared in Universal Pictures’ Johnny English and Johnny English Reborn. He was also featured in the Christmas-themed romantic dramedy Love, Actually with every other UK actor in the business (plus a few Americans). He is currently attached to an adaptation of David Copperfield from writer/director Peter Howitt.
Atkinson is repped by PBJ Management.
