The prophecy from season 2 could become a reality: a movie could be in the works to end the NBC comedy COMMUNITY. Straight from the mouth of Community’s Abed who made the pronouncement-turned-mantra, COMMUNITY will likely see its sixth season…and possibly a movie, too. It all comes down to whether or not NBC can find a comedy to fill its struggling Thursday night time slot. If something better comes along, COMMUNITY is out. If not, NBC is willing to renew the show for 13 episodes of its sixth and final season. If NBC does decide to drop the series, all will not be lost…Sony could offer rights to the final season to Hulu.
Whatever way this goes down, creator Dan Harmon is looking to the big screen to finish off the amazing run of a series that has been on the chopping block since it premiered in 2009. We’re hearing that “The Fast and the Furious” director Justin Lin could be their top choice for the project but with a history of big time directors behind COMMUNITY, including Jay Chandrasekhar and Anthony Russo, there’s no shortage of options.
After seeing the epic fail that was the “Veronica Mars” movie, Harmon and associates might be better off letting the series bow out gracefully.
