The rumor mill’s back in action this week to speculate who might play Henry in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. It’s sounding like Disney is looking to test Taron Egerton, George Mackay, Brenton Thwaites, Mitchell Hope, Ansel Elgort, and Sam Keeley for the role. The fifth installment of the series will bring back Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, and Keith Richards. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are directing the project.
Egerton has appeared in James Kent’s Testament of Youth and will next appear in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman with Colin Firth. Mackay got his start playing Curly in P.J. Hogan’s Peter Pan in 2003 before going on to roles in Edward Zwick’s Defiance and this year’s dramedy Pride. He has recently been cast in Matt Ross’ drama Captain Fantastic. Thwaites, after appearing in Maleficent, Oculus, and The Signal, starred as Jonas in The Giver. He will also star in Helen Hunt’s comedy Ride. Hope will next appear in the Disney Channel TV movie Descendants. Keeley most recently starred in Tom Green’s Monsters: Dark Continent and will next appear in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.
The biggest name in the bunch, Elgort has starred in two of this year’s biggest films – Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars – alongside “It” girl Shalene Woodley. He also stars in Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children and will reprise his role as Caleb for Insurgent.
Mackay is repped by UTA and Gordon and French. Thwaites is repped by WME, United Management, and Industry Entertainment. Hope is repped by UTA and BMEG. Elgort is repped by CAA and Brookside Artist Management. Keeley is repped by Resolution and 42.
