It’s casting time for a major franchise reboot, so it’s time to bet on your favorite pony! (Not an endorsement or reference to ‘Bronies’, honestly). That franchise is, of course, TERMINATOR: GENESIS. The plot is being kept under wraps but every sign points to it being in the vein of a JJ Abrams “Star Trek” style reboot/remake/re-imagining cocktail. Emilia Clark will play Sarah Connor, and Jason Clarke (no relation) will play her son. Who’s older than her. Time travel is a messy business guys.
Anyhow, according to Variety, there are at least five actors looking to play her lover/rescuer/teacher Kyle Reese. Fresh out of the stable we have the Australian newbie Tom Cocquerel, Jai Courtney (“A Good Day to Die Hard”, also Australian), Boyd Holbrook (“Out of the Furnace”, “The Host”), Wilson Bethel (“Hart of Dixie”) and Sam Reid (“Anonymous”, Also quite Australian). All young and not incredibly well known, except Courtney who hasn’t had the greatest track record. Be sure to look up the stats (imdb) for your favorites and place your bets.
Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier wrote the script that Alan Taylor (“Thor: The Dark World”) will direct. Sister/brother duo Megan Ellison and David Ellison will produce through their Annapurna Productions and Skydance Productions respectively.
CAA repped Holbrook has a series of upcoming projects including “Run All Night,” “Jane Got a Gun” and “Gone Girl.” Courtney will next appear in “I, Frankenstein” (oof) and “Divergent.” He is repped by WME. Cocquerel is repped by CAA. Bethel will soon turn up in PT Anderson’s “Inherent Vice” and is repped by Gersh. Reid will appear in “The Railway Man” and “Belle.”
