The satire follows the Soviet Union in March, 1953, during the Soviet dictator’s last days, and depicts the chaos of the regime after his death. The film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin.
Iannucci wrote the script with David Schneider and Ian Martin, with additional material by Peter Fellows. Yann Zenou, Nicolas Duvai-Adassovsky, Laurent Zeitoun, and Kevin Loader produce the film. The film is a Quad, Main Journey, and Free Range Films produce and is in co-production with Gaumont.
Friend is best known for playing Peter Quinn in the award-winning Homeland. He also starred in last year’s actioner Hitman: Agent 47.
