20th Century Fox has tapped Rupert Wyatt to direct the highly-anticipated X-Men spinoff, GAMBIT. Channing Tatum, a known fan of the character, will star as the fan-favorite Cajun mutant Remy LeBeau, otherwise known as Gambit.
Created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, Gambit has the ability to manipulate and create kinetic energy, rendering typically harmless objects explosive, his iconic go-to being playing cards. Scripted by Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer, the film has a tentative release date of October 7, 2016.
Wyatt most recently helmed Paramount’s Mark Wahlberg starrer The Gambler and Fox’s Rise of The Planet Of The Apes.
Up next, he’ll helm Universal’s sci-fi adaptation Agent 13, which stars Charlize Theron. Down the road, he’ll also write and direct Nicholas Hoult’s period romance Birdsong.
Wyatt is repped by UTA.
