The Nice Guys star Russell Crowe is in talks to join Tom Cruise in Universal’s THE MUMMY REBOOT, the first installment of what is expected to be a monster movie franchise. Crowe would join Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Dylan Smith Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, and Courtney B. Vance in the remake from director Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman co-wrote the original script with Robert Orci, and Jon Spaihts penned the most recent draft.
The storyline is being kept under wraps, but will center on a former Navy Seal (Cruise) and a “Lara Croft” type female archeologist (Wallis) who come across a mummy’s tomb. Crowe would play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which suggests his role could be link between a subsequent film in the expanded monster universe.
Crowe, whose The Nice Guys hits theaters later this month, is also set to play Dracula in Eli Roth’s Harker, while he’ll also anchor the period shipwreck tale, In Sand and Blood.
Crowe is repped by WME.
