James McAvoy has entered very early talks to take on the recently departed role of Sam MacPherson to star opposite Peter Dinklage in MY DINNER WITH HERVE. The film, which was previously set to star Ryan Gosling, centers on actor Herve Villechaize, best known for his role as Tattoo on the television show “Fantasy Island” from his rise to fame, and ultimate death by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sacha Gervasi, the director of the aging rock documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” is still onboard to direct from his own script. Steven Zaillian will produce.
McAvoy, who has been all over the casting wire as his “X-Men: First Class” film nears theaters, was most recently seen in “The Conspirator” and heard in “Gnomeo & Juliet”. His already over-stretched development slate now includes 20+ projects, two of which are set for release – the aforementioned ‘X-Men’ film, and “Arthur Christmas” and at least four that are set to shoot this year (not including this new film) “Anna Karenina”, “Cloud Atlas”, “Welcome To the Punch” and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”.
