Gideon Raff writes and directs The Spy, which tells the story of legendary Israeli spy Eli Cohen (Baron Cohen). Eli lived in Damascus undercover in the beginning of the 60’s to spy for Israel. While there he managed to embed himself into Syrian high society and rise through the ranks of their politics until he was uncovered by the Syrian Regime. Once his cover was blown he was sentenced to death and publicly hanged in a Damascus square in 1965. Cohen’s actions, connections, and immense sacrifices have made him a national hero in Israel.
Baron Cohen’s feature credits include Les Misérables, Hugo, Sweeney Todd, and the animated Madagascar franchise. He can currently be seen in Seth Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity which is streaming on Netflix. Cohen is represented by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham.
