Tony Award-winning director Sam Gold is in talks to direct the Rosemary Kennedy biopic LETTERS FROM ROSEMARY, which has La La Land actress Emma Stone set to star in the titular role. This would mark the feature film debut for Gold, an experienced theater director, as well as screenwriter Nick Yarborough, whose spec was discovered on the Black List.
The story centers on Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy, sister of future president John F. Kennedy, through her turbulent childhood which eventually results in her father forcing her to undergo a lobotomy at age 23.
Steve Golin and Doug Wald of Anonymous Content will produce. Allard Cantor, Jarrod Murray, and Richard Arlook are executive producing.
In addition to winning a Tony for directing the 2015 musical Fun Home, Gold has also worked with actors Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal. He is set to direct an Off-Broadway production of Othello with Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo. Stone, who is earning plenty of Oscar buzz for her performance in La La Land, has been attached to the project since March.
Gold is repped by UTA.
