Sam Riley Eyes Villain Role Opposite Scarlett Johansson In “Ghost In The Shell”

Sam Riley is in final negotiations to play an antagonistic role against in Dreamworks‘ upcoming GHOST IN THE SHELL.

The film, based on the popular Japanese manga series originally written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, tells the story of the fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Safety Section 9 in mid 21st Century Japan. One of the more popular adaptations of the manga is the 1995 film, which centers around Section 9’s investigation of the evil Puppet Master. While sources cannot confirm, it is speculated that Riley could be in talks to play the Puppet Master.

The film is being produced by , and . Snow White and The Huntsman’s is directing from the by and . Aside from Johansson, Ben-Hur actor Pilou Asbaek has also been cast.

Riley is perhaps best known as for his work in 2014’s Maleficent. He will next be seen in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, due out next year.
