More than 20 years after America fell in love with Sandra Bullock in Speed, the Oscar-winning actress has signed on for a new action-thriller, as she’ll star in CASH TRUCK for Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Bullock will play an American who takes a job at an armored car company in London that was the recent target of a deadly heist. As she earns the trust of its tight-knit crew, we learn there’s much more to the woman than it seems, as she has both a troubled past and a mysterious agenda. The emotionally-charged indie aims to explore greed, revenge and the dark side of human nature.
Silver will produce, while Hal Sadoff will serve as executive producer. CAA, which represents Bullock and Wladyka, will handle domestic rights, while IMR International will begin shopping the project to foreign buyers at Cannes.
I like Bullock in action-thriller mode, which she hasn’t indulged much since Speed 2. I suppose the serial killer thriller Murder by Numbers qualifies, and I’ve always found that to be a guilty pleasure. I’m strangely looking forward to seeing Bullock channel her inner Liam Neeson.
Bullock, who won an Oscar for The Blind Side, next stars in Ocean’s Eight alongside Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna, among others. That caper comedy comes out next summer, and should be a lot of fun.
