TheWrap has confirmed that Warner Bros. is eyeing several up-and-coming actresses to star opposite The Theory of Everything‘s Eddie Redmayne for the Harry Potter prequel FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. Set in New York seven decades before the adventures of the boy who lived, the spinoff stars Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a zoologist who expertly tracks and catalogues magical creatures. Rowling scripted the adaptation herself, which sees later Harry Potter series helmer David Yates directing.
Sources confirm that Dakota Fanning, Saoirse Ronan, Lili Simmons and Alison Sudol are being eyed to star as Queenie, while Kate Upton, Elizabeth Debicki, and Katherine Waterston are in the running to play Queenie’s older sister, Tina. Though several deals are in place for a few of the actresses to read opposite Redmayne, sources caution that the actresses mentioned may not wish to pursue the project and may not even be available.
The film will bow on Nov. 18, 2016, and is expected to be the first installment of an intended trilogy.
