Saoirse Ronan has been tapped to take the lead role of the young-and-in-love violinist Florence in ON CHESIL BEACH, based on the novel by Ian McEwan. This marks the second time Ronan has starred in a film based on a McEwan novel, the first being Atonement, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
The Hollow Crown director, Dominic Cooke will direct the feature and it will be produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley of Number 9 Films, which was responsible for this year’s stunning Carol as well as Byzantium, which also starred Ronan.
The film is set in 1962 Britain and follows Florence, her dreams of a stage career, and the young love story between her and her new husband, Edward as they try to fulfill their duties as newlyweds.
Ronan is nominated for her second Oscar for her role as an Irish immigrant in Brooklyn. Later this year she can be seen in the Vincent Van Gogh feature, Loving Vincent, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, as well as The Seagull with Elisabeth Moss and Annette Bening.
She is repped by CAA and Macfarlane Chard.
