Netflix has announced the Feb. 2 2018 release date for the 10-episode mini-series based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 cyberpunk novel Altered Carbon via a teaser-trailer which you can watch below.
The series takes place in a future where the human mind can be digitized and downloaded into a “cortical stack” and placed in new bodies or “sleeves.” Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad, Robocop) plays Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is brought back to life using this process to investigate the attempted murder of Earth’s wealthiest man Laurens Bancroft, played by James Purefoy (Rome, The Following).
The teaser below mainly introduces the series’ central sci-fi concept via a fake advert, similar to Screen Gems’ marketing for the Resident Evil movies, but it then breaks out to show some of the characters and action from the series.
The show is produced by Skydance Television with series creator Laeta Kalogridis (Birds of Prey) writing along with David H. Goodman, Steve Blackman and Brian Nelson. Uta Briesewitz, Nick Hurran, Peter Roar and Miguel Sapochnik are four of the directors on the series.
Netflix will launch Altered Carbon exclusively on the streaming service starting Feb. 2, 2018.
