The untitled work tells the story of a corrupt detective in the NYPD’s most elite crime-fighting unit. Sergeant Denny Malone is forced to choose between his family, his partners, and his life. To stop the city’s long-simmering racial tensions from exploding, he must reconcile the idealistic guardian he still views himself to be, with the corrupt cop he’s become. He then finds himself attacked on all sides – Harlem drug gangs, the mob he’s in bed with, the brother cops he’s about to destroy, the mayor’s office that fears what he knows, relentless federal investigators who want to put him behind bars, but most of all, his own demons.
20th Century won the project in a seven-figure deal. HarperCollins imprint William Morrow is set to release the novel in June 2017. Scott, Michael Schaefer, and Shane Salerno are attached to produce. Steve Asbell is overseeing. They are currently on the hunt for a writer to adapt the project.
Winslow is an international bestselling author whose previous works have also garnered Hollywood’s attention. He set up his previous novel The Cartel at Scott Free and Fox. His novel Savages also received the big screen treatment with a version from Oliver Stone starring Blake Lively.
