Ava DuVernay is being eyed to direct an upcoming Marvel superhero film. The film that she would direct is currently unknown, but the Black Panther and Captain Marvel films have been reported as the top possibilities. The character of Black Panther will headline his own film in 2018, but will first appear in the sequel Captain America: Civil War, where the new Spider-Man will also make his screen debut. Chadwick Boseman has been cast in the lead role. The Captain Marvel film is also set for a 2018 release date.
DuVernay is known for directing the Oscar nominated film Selma, and has previously worked on the productions of Spider-Man 2 and I-Robot. She is set to write and direct an upcoming Hurricane Katrina project.
