STX has released the first trailer for Baltasar Kormákur romantic survival drama ADRIFT, which finds Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin sailing the open seas.
The film is based on the true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, who got caught in one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.
Aaron Kandell and Jordan Kandell co-wrote the script along with David Branson Smith, and the Kandells also produced the film with Kormákur. It’s based on the book Red Sky in Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea by Tami Oldham Ashcraft, with Susea McGearhart.
STX will release Adrift on June 1. Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you think Woodley could find herself in the awards conversation next year.
