Shirley MacLaine Considers “Men of Granite”

Acclaimed actress is in talks to star in . The sports/drama tells the true story of a group of poor, immigrant high school boys from the wrong side of the tracks who rise above bigotry in a small town by proving themselves on the basketball court. MacLaine would play Sophia Prather, a teacher who encourages the boys to start playing basketball and stands up for them after they’re faced with ridicule and bigotry. William Hurt is also in talks to star as the coach.

MacLaine is known for her classic roles in films like “The Apartment,” “Steel Magnolias,” and “Terms of Endearment,” a role that earned her an Oscar for Best . Since then, MacLaine has stolen scenes in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “In Her Shoes,” and on BBC’s “Downton Abbey,” where she plays the outspoken and witty Martha Levinson. Her upcoming projects include comedy “The Locals” with Vera Farmiga, Andy Tennant’s action/dramedy “Wild Oats,” and thriller “Anyone’s Son” where she stars opposite James Caan and Danny Aiello.
