After the success and critical acclaim of Sicario, there was buzz that a sequel was in the works. Producers Molly Smith and Trent & Thad Luckinbill have officially confirmed that a SICARIO 2 is in development at Lionsgate.
No word yet on whether or not Denis Villeneuve will return to direct the film, but reports say that Taylor Sheridan, the writer of the first film, already submitted a draft of the script for the sequel and that Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro are set to reprise their roles. Details about the plot have been kept under wraps, but it has been hinted that the producers would like to focus on Del Toro’s character.
Sicario told the story of an FBI agent (Blunt) who’s recruited by two mysterious government figures (Brolin and Del Toro) to help in a secret mission that involved the war against drug cartels at the border of the U.S. and Mexico. The movie was met with critical acclaim and garnered three Oscar nominations including Best Achievement in Cinematography.
