“Silicon Valley” Star T.J. Miller Tapped For Emoji Movie At Sony

With the adaptation of Angry Birds and the recent announcement of a Pokemon Go movie, it was only a matter of time before a movie based on emojis would be made — and Sony has it covered with its upcoming animated feature, EMOJI MOVIE: EXPRESS YOURSELF, with Silicon Valley star as one first actors to board the project.

Miller is set to play the “meh” emoji that goes by the name of Gene. Unlike his “meh” family, Gene is an optimistic character, but things start to go awry when a glitch causes him to have multiple expressions that he can’t control. He wants everything to go back to normal, but soon finds out that this glitch may be a blessing in disguise.

Anthony Leondis will direct the animated feature that he wrote with Eric Siegel. Michelle Raimo Kouyate is set to produce. Emoji Movie will open in theaters on Aug. 11, 2017.

Miller recently appeared in the R-rated comic book blockbuster Deadpool opposite Ryan Reynolds. He is currently filming Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ready Player One and can also be seen in the upcoming ensemble comedy Office Christmas Party.
