American Idol alum Simon Cowell and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody are partnering with Glee co-creator Ian Brennan to make some waves with a comedy centered on the world of synchronized swimming.
Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to the yet-to-be-titled single-camera comedy which will be written by Brennan and Cody. The story will follow Marion Lolo, who has 26 synchronized swimming medals, one restraining order against her and zero friends.
Brennan and Cody will also serve as executive producers. Cowell will also executive produce under his Syco Entertainment banner with Adam Millano.
Cowell will continue his reign as a reality competition judge in the upcoming season of America’s Got Talent. He is repped by WME.
Cody is the co-creator of Tig Notaro’s Amazon comedy One Mississippi and is developing another comedy titled Raised by Wolves at ABC with Greg Berlanti. In addition to the critically acclaimed Juno starring Ellen Page, her film credits include Ricki and the Flash and Young Adult. She is repped by WME and MXN Entertainment.
