Simon West to Direct “The Blob” Remake

(The Mechanic, The Expendables 2) is set to get behind the camera for the upcoming remake of the 1958 sci-fi cult classic THE BLOB. The original film, directed by Irvin Yeaworth and starring Steve McQueen, followed a growing alien amoeba that crashes from outer space in a meteorite that consumes the citizens at the small community in Pennsylvania. West recently directed Wild Card for Lionsgate, which sees Jason Statham starring as a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal skills and a gambling problem.  The film is set for a Jan. 30, 2015 release. He is also attached to direct Tolkien & Lewis, a drama about long-time friends J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis who must battle their personal demons to become the world’s foremost fantasy authors. Jacqueline Cook wrote the script and West is also producing.
