Jeremy Jordan will join CBS’s upcoming superhero series SUPERGIRL. Throughout the past month, many of the show’s cast members have been revealed. Jordan will join the series as a guest star, with the potential of recurring appearances. Jordan will star as Winslow “Winn” Schott, a tech-savvy colleague of Kara’s who works beside her at CatCo. CBS has officially described the character as an “superstar IT whiz,” but DC comics fans will recognize Schott as the classic Superman and Batman nemesis known as the Toyman.
Jordan joins Dean Cain and Helen Slater, who were also recently announced to guest star. Laura Benanti, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Calista Flockhart and Mehcad Brooks will star in the series. Melissa Benoist will play Supergirl in the re imagining from Flash and Arrow creator Greg Berlanti, who developed the show with Ali Adler. The duo will executive produce alongside Sarah Schecter.
Comics fans will undoubtedly be familiar with the Toyman, as the character as appeared in nearly every incarnation of the Superman and Batman animated series. The character is one of Superman’s oldest villains, making his debut appearance in 1943. Chris Gauthier portrayed the character in two episodes of Smallville.
Jordan’s casting skews younger than the Toyman is typically portrayed, as he often appears as a much older, occasionally overweight, psychopath. There’s no word yet as to whether Schott will go full villain early on or will undergo a character transformation throughout the series. Here’s hoping the CBS incarnation will keep his deep affinity for deadly toys.
Jordan is known for his roles in Smash, Law & Order: SVU, and Elementary. He also played Jack Kelly in the Broadway production of Newsies. The young actor, known for his signing talent, also starred opposite Anna Kendrick in The Last Five Years. Next up, he’ll appear in the drama Outliving Emily.
Jordan is repped by ICM and Schachter/Brown.
