“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara has signed on to board the rebooted Farrelly Brother’s comedy THE THREE STOOGES. The film is now moving forward with a planned cast of Sean Hayes, Richard Jenkins, Will Sasso, and of course Vergara, with the last stooge yet to be cast (though Hank Azaria is in talks for the role). The project has gone through a strange series of hurdles to move toward production, with bouncing studios, complete casts, and finally budget sizes. The variations have included cast members (finalized or in talks) including Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Jim Carrey, Jack Black, Paul Giamatti, Russell Crowe, Andy Samberg, Shane Jacobson and Johnny Knoxville. Meanwhile the budgets have bounced between a modest $30 million, to a bloated $100 million – a key point in the move from MGM to Fox.
Vergara, who is one of the stars of the aforementioned “Modern Family” has “The Smurfs” and “Happy Feet 2” releasing soon, and is currently in production on the romantic comedy “New Year’s Eve”.
Vergara is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Latin World Entertainment.
