The film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich as Monsieur Solo, will premiere as a special screening on May 15, which is ten days before it officially opens worldwide.

Ron Howard directed Solo, which co-stars Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian.

While the last three Star Wars movies have premiered in , the franchise does have a track record on the Croisette, as both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith screened out of competition at Cannes, which runs May 8-19 this year.
