Sony Pictures has cornered the rights to Cole Merrell and Douglas Century’s upcoming book Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of The American Lawman Who Captures The World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Published by HarperCollins, the book will chronicle the pursuit of the elusive Mexican drug cartel leader known as El Chapo, who was extradited to the U.S. this year.
3 Arts Entertainment will produce the adaptation of HUNTING EL CHAPO.
Michael Bay is among the directors interested in the project, which faces competition in the form of The Cartel, the drug drama that Ridley Scott is already scouting locations for. Leonardo DiCaprio is circling The Cartel, which was written by Shane Salerno.
Hunting El Chapo will be published on October 17 right around the time of his trial, which is expected to make global headlines. The case remains sensitive, and the DEA official who led the chase helped write the book, using Merrell as a pseudonym,
