After months of speculation and casting rumors, Asa Butterfield is in final talks to land the role of SPIDER-MAN. Earlier this month, the running for the role was narrowed down to Butterfield and up and coming actor Tom Holland. See the casting article here. Butterfield will first appear as the character in the film Captain America: Civil War, before getting a solo film in 2018. The film is currently being dubbed Spider-Man: The New Avenger. He will also appear in The Avengers: Infinity War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
It has been revealed that Butterfield will portray Peter Parker. Marvel and Sony have teamed up in a rare occurrence to share the character, and came to a joint decision to put Peter back in high school, and a cast an appropriately aged actor. Butterfield follows in the footsteps of Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield, being the third to portray the character created by Stan Lee. Butterfield is known for his role in the Martin Scorsese film Hugo, and has starred in Ender’s Game and The Boy With The Striped Pajamas.
