Gray adapted the screenplay from David Grann’s book, The Lost City of Z – A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon. The true story centers on Colonel Percival Fawcett, a British explorer who, in 1925, ventured deep into the Amazon jungle in search of a mysterious civilization–only to never return. Grann’s non-fiction best-seller landed on dozens of year-end lists in 2009, earning praise for both its thrilling narrative and thoroughly researched history, before being optioned by Pitt in 2010.
Holland, who first came on the scene in J.A. Bayona’s harrowing drama The Impossible, will next be seen in Ron Howard’s nautical pic In the Heart of the Sea. Earlier this year, Holland was officially announced as the next Peter Parker for Sony’s latest Spider-Man reboot, which, thanks to a new partnership between Sony and Marvel, will also secure him a spot in the much-anticipated blockbuster Captain America: Civil War.
Holland is repped by WME and Curtis Brown Group.
