Olivia Cooke is ready for READY PLAYER ONE. The star of Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is currently in negotiations to play Sam Cook, AKA Art3mis, in the adaptation of Ernie Cline’s bestselling sci-fi novel. Steven Spielberg has been looking for leads for this project for a while now, now he only has the male lead left to cast.
The story is set in Oasis, a virtual world and game that exists on the internet. When the designer of Oasis dies, he leaves his entire fortune as a grand prize in the game for the players (and evil corporate interests to compete for in an elaborate treasure hunt.
This will be Cooke’s first foray into a big budget film, having done mostly TV and indie/low-budget horror films like Blumhouse’s Ouija, but Me, Earl and the Dying Girl seems to have thrust her name onto the A-list since she beat out Elle Fanning and Lola Clarke for this role.
She is repped by Gersh and Shepherd Management.
