Writer and director Spike Lee is in early talks to direct Paramount’s SPINNING GOLD.
The film chronicles the rise of infamous record producer Niel Bogart, from his early life as a poor Jewish kid on the streets of Brooklyn, to a multimillionaire and creator of Casablanca Records. Justin Timberlake has been attached to star as Bogart for quite some time now and I’m glad to see that the project is finally getting underway. Timothy Scott Bogart penned the latest draft of the script and will be producing alongside Timberlake, Mark Damon, Gary A. Randall, Evan Bogart and Laurence Mark. Joyce Bogart Trabulus and Rick Yorn are executive producing.
Lee most recently directed the musical documentary “Bad 25” and executive produced Michael A. Pinckney’s horror-thriller “You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills You.” Lee’s directorial talents will next be seen in his “Oldboy” remake and in an untitled Marion Barry biopic which will air on HBO. Lee is repped by CAA.
