Director Steven Quale has signed on to helm the action/thriller HUNTER KILLER. The project follows an American submarine commander and a Navy SEAL team who must work together to rescue the President of Russia and stop a rising military coup before a rogue Russian general starts World War III.
Quale is relatively new to the directing game but it’s quality not quantity, right? Quale directed the documentary “Aliens of the Deep” with James Cameron in 2005 and is currently working on “Into the Storm,” the action/thriller about the aftermath of a devastating tornado. He’s better known for his visual effects work on “Avatar” and his work on “Titanic” and “True Lies.”
The project has been in development limbo for a while after directors kept dropping like flies. Antoine Fuqua, Phillip Noyce and McG were all attached to direct at one point and all subsequently dropped out. Hopefully Quale will be the one to finally take this project to the finish line.
