With the huge success of Straight Outta Compton, writer Jonathan Herman has become one of the most-buzzworthy scribes in town. Herman has now been brought on to do an overhaul of DreamWorks’ sci-fi thriller GHOST IN THE SHELL. Based on the anime of the same name, the film will star Scarlett Johansson as an elite cyborg part of an organization devoted to eliminating the world’s most dangerous criminals and extremists.
Set with a release date of March 31st, 2017, the Rupert Sanders-directed live-action adaptation is scheduled to begin production in the beginning of 2016. The film will shoot in New Zealand.
Herman was also brought in to do an overhaul on Universal’s N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, penning the draft that got the okay from the studio. Compton became an end of summer hit, ranking in nearly $200 million worldwide. William Wheeler and Jamie Moss scripted previous drafts of Ghost.
Herman recently penned a new draft of Universal’s Scarface remake and is currently writing supernatural thriller The Demonologist and The Birds remake, both also at Universal.
He’s repped by WME and Industry Entertainment.
