Production for the second season of the Netflix hit STRANGER THINGS has started and there are new faces joining the cast. Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen are the latest to sign on to venture into the Upside Down.
Astin is set to play Bob Newby who is described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.” Reiser will step into the role of Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” Bertheleson, new face in Hollywood, will play Roman who is “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.”
Considering Stranger Things creators Ross and Matt Duffer’s affinity for paying homage to retro sci-fi pics and Spielbergian adventures, Astin and Reiser are perfect additions to the cast. Astin starred in the teen treasure hunt classic The Goonies, while Reiser starred in the groundbreaking Aliens. Both have clear influences on the series.
Astin’s previous TV credits include The Strain and Con Man. He currently lends his voice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle animated series. His recent film credits include the comedy Unleashed and The Do-Over. He is repped by WME.
Paul Reiser currently stars in the Amazon series Red Oaks. He recently starred in a numerous amount of films including Joshy, The Darkness, and War on Everyone. He can be seen next in the Drama The Book of Love with Jessica Biel and Maisie Williams. He is repped by Gersh and New Wave Entertainment.
Stranger Things marks Berthelsen’s series debut. She recently starred in the shorts Teenland and Natskygge. She is repped by Panorama Agency ApS.
