2013 Launch Pad Feature Competition winner Kate Trefry has been hired as a staff writer for the highly anticipated second season of STRANGER THINGS. After her script Pure 0 earned her the top spot for the Launch Pad’s inaugural Feature Competition, Trefry landed representation with manager Lee Stobby and UTA.
The upcoming season of Stranger Things is poised to deliver more of the nostalgia-fueled, genre-bending drama that made the first season a breakout hit. Earlier this month Millie Bobby Brown confirmed via Twitter that Eleven will, in fact, return for Season Two. Creator Matt Duffer also confirmed the first episode will pick up one year from the aftermath of last season’s events.
The series, which is set in 1983 in a small Indiana town, follows a group of young boys who, after their friend goes missing, uncover a dark and dangerous world and meet a young, mysterious girl who is more than she seems. Joining the show’s sophomore season are Sean Astin, Paul Rieser, Linnea Berthelsen, Brett Gelman, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery.
A graduate of NYU, Trefry’s Launch Pad winning script, Pure 0, follows a college student who starts suffering from uncontrollable violent thoughts and becomes obsessed with finding out what they mean on the eve of graduation. Her script also earned her a spot on the 2013 Hit List, Black List, and Young and Hungry List.
In an interview with the Tracking Board after winning the 2013 feature competition, Trefry expressed that the Launch Pad “contest legitimately changed my life. It was amazing to have my work sent out and actually taken seriously”. The Launch Pad Pilots Competition is currently underway and accepting submissions for its 2017 competition. The early-bird deadline ends Sunday, December 4th.
