Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 has pre-emptively nabbed the rights to THE HIDDEN GIRL, the forthcoming short story from acclaimed sci-fi author Ken Liu.
The short story, which is being described as Interstellar meets Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, centers around a team of assassins who are able to navigate between dimensions.
Liu is the author of The Dandelion Dynasty series of novels, which includes The Grace of Kings and The Wall of Storms, set for release in October, 2016. The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, Liu’s collection of sci-fi short stories published in March, has received widespread critical acclaim. Liu has previously won the Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy awards, with The Grace of Kings being named a 2015 Nebula and Locus finalist.
Robinov will produce, with Chris Goldberg and Rishi Rajani serving as the execs on the project for the studio.
Studio 8, headed up by Robinov, has a five-year distribution deal with Sony, in which Sony maintains worldwide distribution rights to Studio 8’s feature films with the exception of the Greater China region. Along with Sony, Studio 8 is partially funded by the Chinese investment management firm Fosun Group.
Liu is repped by the Cheng Caplan Company and Scovil Galen Ghosh.
