Carly Chaikin and Portia Doubleday have joined the cast of USA’s drama pilot MR. ROBOT. The series centers on a young, brilliant, but severely anti-social hacker (played by Rami Malek) who decides that he can only emotionally connect with people by hacking them. Chaikin plays a chain-smoking malware expert, while Doubleday has been cast as the hacker’s pragmatic childhood friend.
Chaikin’s last show, ABC’s three-season comedy “Suburgatory,” was cancelled last year. Dalia (Chaikin’s character) was no computer expert, but she did at least have a voice that you could believe came from a chain smoker. Chaikin also appeared in Lake Bell’s directorial debut “In a World…” Doubleday appeared in the 2013 “Carrie” remake, but her best-known role to date was probably in Spike Jonze’s “Her,” where she played the surrogate date who allowed main characters Samantha and Theodore to pretend they are in the same physical room together. Coming up, she’ll star in Sean Garrity’s fairy tale comedy “After the Ball.”
