One of the films I regret missing at this year’s Sundance is Silas Howard’s A KID LIKE JAKE, because it seemed like the type touching and emotional drama I tend to enjoy. Also, the film’s subject of a child and his/her parents dealing with gender identity questions is something we’re seeing a lot more in real life.
The brand-new trailer from IFC Films for Howard’s film also makes me wish I was able to catch the drama even more.
A Kid Like Jake stars Claire Danes, Jim Parsons, Priyanka Chopra, Octavia Spencer and introduces Leo James Davis as Jake Wheeler.
Daniel Pearle adapts his own play for Howard’s film, and the synopsis is:
A Brooklyn couple has always known that their four-year-old son is more interested in fairy tale princesses than toy cars. But when his preschool director points out that his gender-nonconforming play may be more than a phase, the couple is forced to rethink their roles as parents and spouses.
You can watch the trailer for the June 1 release below, and we’ll have to see how wide IFC Films releases the movie.
