The Weinstein Company has assembled a TV series package based on Mario Puzo’s OMERTA. It is The Godfather author’s final novel, published posthumously in 2000.
Sylvester Stallone is set to star in the series in the lead role of mob boss Raymonde Aprile, the last great American Don. Antoine Fuqua has signed on to direct with a script from Justin Herber and Adam Hoff. The series is still in search of a showrunner and an actress for the female lead.
The event series follows the story of Don Aprile’s adopted “nephew” Astorre Viola. It is the final book in Puzo’s mafia trilogy, with the first two novels being the infamous The Godfather and The Last Don.
Fuqua and Stallone will executive produce the series with Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein, and David Glasser. Weinstein’s Megan Spanjian has been handling the packaging.
Stallone won raves from fans and critics for his role in last year’s Creed and will next be heard as a character in Ratchet & Clank. Fuqua directed last year’s Southpaw and the upcoming Magnificent Seven.
Stallone is repped by WME. Fuqua is repped by CAA.
