In the midst of filming Escape Plan 2: Hades, Sylvester Stallone, director Steven C. Miller and writer Miles Chapman have signed on to return for ESCAPE PLAN 3, the Tracking Board has learned.
Emmett/Furla/Oasis has been eager to continue with the action franchise after the original grossed $137 million worldwide back in 2013. Lionsgate Premiere will distribute both sequels.
Miller has been hard at work directing Escape Plan 2, which just added Bosch star Titus Welliver and UFC champ Tyron Woodley to its ensemble cast.
Miller works lean and mean, regularly completing more than 150 camera set-ups a day. It’s that kind of efficiency behind the camera that explains why EFO is bringing him back to direct the third film. By sticking to a tight schedule, Miller helps the company keep production costs down, allowing that money to be redistributed elsewhere, like the supporting cast.
In addition to Welliver and Woodley, Escape Plan 2 will feature Jaime King, Dave Bautista, Curtis “50 Cent Jackson,” Wes Chatham, Jesse Metcalfe and Pete Wentz.
With Stallone engaged in a public spat with Avi Lerner over the future of the Expendables franchise, it seems that Escape Plan will be his new action franchise du jour. The Oscar-nominated actor will soon be seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He’s represented by WME.
Miller, who has the Bruce Willis movie First Kill in post-production, is repped by UTA and Aperture Entertainment.
Currently the welterweight champion of the UFC, Woodley has been racking up movie credits as if they were Octagon victories lately. The actor and frequent stuntman recently worked with Bautista on Kickboxer: Vengeance. Since making his acting debut in Straight Outta Compton, Woodley has also wrapped roles in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and the zombie comedy Office Uprising.
Welliver stars on Amazon’s original series Bosch and has appeared in all four of director Ben Affleck’s films, though he’ll always be the Man in Black from Lost to me. He’s repped by Paradigm and Leverage Management.
Stallone teased a third Escape Plan movie several weeks ago on Instagram in a post seen below.
